Electricity in Dhanbad

JSEB or Jharkhand State Electricity Board is a statutory organization for maintenance, transmission and efficient operation of electricity in Jharkhand. It was constituted in March, 2001. The ''Board'' has been formed under Section-5 (1) of Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948. It is a technical and commercial agency working according to provisions of a Central Law.

The Thermal Power Stations of Tata Power are also located in Jojobera and Maithon in Jharkhand. Tata Power company has marked its presence in the field of hydro, thermal, wind and solar power generation. Another 1050 MW coal based thermal power plant has been built by Tata Power in collaboration with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). 

This power plant has been built at Maithon in Dhanbad district. The second unit of 525 MW has also been commissioned. Electricity generated here is provided to other Northern States too.

JSEB has always endeavored to utilize available resources while upgrading itself. As a result, schemes such as RGGVY (Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana) and R-APDRP (Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme) have been implemented well. Under these schemes, villages have been electrified. 

Sub Transmission and Distribution network have been strengthened and upgraded and Information Technology has been adopted during the XI Plan. The focus is on establishment of base line data, fixation of accountability, reduction of AT&C Aggregate Technical and Commercial) losses.

Panchet Hydel Power Station was designed to control floods. It is an underground power station which generates 60,000 KW of electric power. This underground dam constructed on Barakar river is indeed a unique power station not only in Jharkhand but also in whole of South East Asia. It aids in water supply for domestic and industrial utilization as well as generates, transmits and distributes electrical energy.

Maithon Hydel Power Station (MHPS) is located on the river Barakar near the border of Dhanbad & Burdwan districts. It  generates 60 MW with 3 units of 20 MW each. Another 10 MW Power Plant is at Jamadoba (Dhanbad).

Tata Maithon Right Bank Thermal Power Plant India is located in Dhanbad district. It is a Coal Power Plant with a design capacity of 1050 MW. It has 2 units. The first unit was commissioned in the year 2011 and the other in 2011. It is operated by Maithon Power Limited (MPL).

MPL (Maithon Power Limited) is the first successful public-private partnership in green field generation project in the country. It is a joint venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in Jharkhand. The site is about 250 kms. from Jamshedpur & Ranchi and 25 kms. from Asansol. JSEB in Dhanbad has lighted up lives of the denizens living here.
