Climate of Dhanbad
The average elevation of Dhanbad is 745 ft. and it is situated on the Chota Nagpur plateau. It has West Bengal in the Eastern and Southern side, Bokaro in the West and Giridih and Dumka in the North. The geographical length of Dhanbad extending from North to South is 24 kms. and its breadth (West to East) is 16 kms.
Dhanbad has a pleasant climate throughout the year. November to February are winter months which are very cold. The temperature during winter varies from 47° F to 94°F. By mid-June, it is time for the rains. The temperature from the months of March to June varies from 56°F to 114°F. In the months from July to October, the temperature ranges from 59°F to 97°F.
The climate of Dhanbad can be said to be fluctuating between humid subtropical climate and tropical wet and dry climate. Best season for the tourists to visit this place is from the months of October to March.
The main river of this district is Damodar river. Other rivers flowing through this district are Katri, Jamunia, Gobai, Khudia and Irji. There are two large dams here namely, Maithon dam and Panchet dam. People have taken to pisciculture and even sericulture as the forests are of northern tropical dry deciduous type.
Dhanbad Summer: Last week of March to mid-June. The temperature during summer reaches 48°C at times.
